WASHINGTON  WIDE

By John Shephard — featured in Terry Hope's The World's Top Photographers: Landscape
John Shephard grew up in Washington State. The landscapes here — the volcanic summits, the old-growth forests, the basalt canyons, the Palouse in harvest light shaped how he sees, and eventually why he photographs.

Washington Wide is the result of years of work across the full breadth of the state. Shot on Fujichrome Velvia 50 film with panoramic cameras, the book moves through Washington's diverse landscapes in a carefully considered sequence. Each image was chosen not simply for what it shows, but for how it feels. The goal was always the same: to make a photograph so immersive that you want to step inside it.

The production reflects the same commitment as the photography. Printed to archival standards with precise color management, the book is designed to reproduce Velvia's color fidelity accurately and permanently.

Washington Wide is now available for pre-order. The book ships in October 2026 as a hardcover with a full-color dust jacket, 11 × 8.5", 172 pages, foreword by Randy Lewis.
